In Ireland, a staggering 25 per cent of people have never logged onto the internet and a major barrier to this is access to IT equipment. Through Promise it, Rehab Recycle seeks to bridge this gap by enabling people obtain low cost IT equipment and thus profit from gaining IT skills and being able to go online. This can be of huge benefit in doing things as simple as a job search and being able to type and upload a CV, ordering groceries, or even skyping friends and relatives overseas.
Martin Reddy, Commercial Manager, Rehab Recycle, comments, “We are delighted to win the Green Corporate Citizen Award particularly as Promise it to Rehab Recycle is in its infancy and has only been operating since last November. We know that Promise it is important not only for the environment but also for companies who want to give something back to the community. This award is a wonderful acknowledgement of what we believe to be a really innovative initiative and we look forward to many more organisations signing up to the scheme over the coming months and to helping make a difference to the work of so many worthy endeavours.”
Since launching Promise it, a significant number of desktop computers have already been donated to schools, charities and community groups.
Companies can register for the initiative at www.promiseit.ie or Freefone 1800 661 551 and, when they are ready, Rehab Recycle will take back their discarded equipment. In the case of desktops and laptops, all data will be permanently and verifiably removed using Blancco data destruction software, the system refurbished, a new Microsoft package uploaded, and then the equipment delivered to the organisation of the company’s choice.
