RehabCare's community-based resource centres assist people with disabilities to achieve their full potential - and a better quality of life.
The centres provide a five day per week service designed to enable clients to develop their independent living skills and to become active members of their local communities.
These can include anything from shopping for clothes or planning the weekly budget, personal hygiene, cookery to learning computer skills or joining a drama group - it's up to the client to decide.
A key focus of all parts of the programme is to encourage, support and facilitate participants to make choices that fit in with their needs and wishes and those of their families or carers. Each person draws up their own action plan in consultation with staff. The action plan maps out each individual's interests and requirements, as well as the activities they would like to pursue.
These are divided under the following headings:
Independent Living Skills - e.g. money management, cooking, self care, advocacy etc.
Personal Development - e.g. assertiveness training, stress management, basic computer skills, literacy, numeracy etc.
Work - supported work in the community.
Community Integration/Social & Leisure - Participation in the community and use of community amenities. Membership of clubs/organisations within the community such as local sports clubs, gym, drama groups etc.
