The Trek Fundraising Ride-out for RehabCare
Excitement is mounting ahead of RehabCare’s inaugural fundraising ride-out, The Trek, taking place on Saturday September 3 at 12 midday. The trek will start at the RehabCare resource centre in Aughamore Far and will continue to Union Wood before later returning. The event is unique in seeing Sligo’s equestrian community come together for the first time – all in support of a very worthy cause – and the community is being urged to join in the fun by registering their interest and bringing along their own horse or pony.
RehabCare operates a wide variety of responsive health and social care programmes which reach into communities the length and breadth of Ireland. Choice, quality and personalised services are the cornerstones of RehabCare, which prides itself on the flexibility of programmes in meeting the individual wishes and requirements of each client. In Sligo, RehabCare currently provides a range of services to more than 65 people from all around the county, including a resource centre in Aughamore Far for people with disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum, an outreach after-hours service for people with disabilities living in the community, and supported accommodation services in Sligo town.
“The Trek is a unique opportunity for Sligo’s horsey folk to get out and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with family and friends,” says Eamonn Wheeler, Community Services Manager, RehabCare. “We are looking for riders of all ages to register with us, bring along their horse or pony, and take a sponsorship card to raise as much money as they can for our local centre. After The Trek we are hosting a BBQ in the Aughamore Far resource centre and all are welcome. This will get underway at 5pm and promises to be a great social occasion!”
“The Trek has already been warmly received and supported by a wide variety of groups in the Sligo equestrian world. Sligo Riding Centre in Carrowmore, Island View Riding Centre in Grange, Tubberbride Equestrian Centre in Collooney, and Keash Equestrian Centre in Ballymote will be providing volunteer stewards and marshals. Benbulben Riding Club, Sligo Hunt Pony Club and Sligo Harriers will also be encouraging their members to get involved either by riding or by volunteering. We are also being well supported by our local community and would like to say a special word of thanks to the local landowners who have given us permission to cross their land, and to Coillte for facilitating the use of Union Wood.”
