The Countdown is on to 1 Day for Rehab
With just 4 days to go, the countdown is well and truly underway to 1 Day for Rehab! Organisers throughout the length and breadth of Ireland are busy making their final preparations for the many events that are taking place as part of Rehab’s first-ever national fundraising appeal.
Pauline Crowley, Head of Fundraising, Rehab, comments: “Rehab is here every day, 365 days a year supporting people with disabilities and others who are marginalised across a range of services. Now, we are hoping that, in return, on 1 Day for Rehab, that people will come out in their droves to support us for our fundraising activities.
“We need funds to enable the continued development of our services in centres throughout Ireland and since we announced details of our exciting appeal just a few weeks ago, we have been inundated with messages of goodwill. By getting behind 1 Day for Rehab, people will be directly supporting people with disabilities in their own community in enabling them to realise their dreams, learn skills, access new job opportunities and live more independent lives. So come on everyone and join in the fun.” Amongst the high-profile public figures lending their backing to the campaign are RTÉ’s Mary Kennedy and Aidan Power and TV personality Caroline Morahan. Only in its first year, 1 Day for Rehab has already caught the imagination of communities across the country as people rally together to organise much-needed funds for Rehab’s high-quality services, with everything from head shaves and tea leaf reading, scubathons and parachute jumps, and dog walks and bed pushes, taking place.
A special initiative taking place this year is the 1 Day Lunch where people are being encouraged to host a lunch, a barbecue, a picnic, or whatever grabs their fancy, with family, friends and neighbours, with guests being asked to make a donation to Rehab. To access some mouth-watering recipes from some of Ireland’s leading chefs, including Kevin Thornton, Domini Kemp, Lorraine Fitzmaurice, Richard Wilson and Donal Skehan, just log onto www.1dayforwww.rehab.ie
Every year, Rehab supports more than 7,600 people and their families in 125 centres across Ireland, through its resource centres and training centres, its residential and supported accommodation services, and its respite care, outreach and home-based services. The people who currently use Rehab’s services include young people and adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities, people with mental health difficulties, people with autism and people with an acquired brain injury. A range of essential services is also provided to older people, carers and others who are marginalised.
