Serve up something ONE-derful for Rehab!
One of Ireland’s favourite television personalities, Caroline Morahan, was today (Wednesday 2 June) served up some exclusive lunch tips by home cook, author and Good Mood Food blogger, Donal Skehan, in preparation for Rehab’s first-ever national fundraising appeal, 1 Day for Rehab (Sunday June 20). Caroline and Donal are encouraging everyone to hold a 1 Day Lunch and raise some much-needed funds for Rehab’s services countrywide.
Caroline Morahan, a long-time Rehab supporter, has taken some time out during her visit home from Los Angeles to help out with the preparations for 1 Day. Caroline said, “Hosting a 1 Day Lunch is a really simple and fun way to make a big difference to so many people in your own community who avail of Rehab services. So go on – invite your friends and neighbours around and raise some funds for this very worthy cause!”
Donal Skehan has plenty of tips and recipes for anyone wanting to host a lunch in aid of 1 Day for Rehab, “Some people can be daunted by the idea of serving up food for a group of people, but the 1 Day Lunch is something everyone can take part in and enjoy. Lunch doesn’t have to be a big ordeal – it can be as simple as sandwiches or a BBQ. For lots of recipe ideas and fundraising tips, just log on to www.1dayforwww.rehab.ie and have a day to remember!”
Each year, Rehab helps over 7,500 people in Ireland to live their lives and realise their aspirations, learn new skills and play a full part in their community. Rehab works in over 125 locations across Ireland, with 2,500 staff members nationwide helping children and adults with disabilities to live their lives the way they choose, through resource and training centres, residential and supported accommodation services and in respite care, outreach and home-based services. Rehab urgently needs funds that will be raised on 1 Day for Rehab to support the continued development of these high-quality services in local areas across the country.
Pauline Crowley, Head of Fundraising at Rehab, said, “Supporting local communities is at the heart of what Rehab does. 1 Day for Rehab is about recognising that Rehab is here every day, 365 days a year, supporting people in their local communities and we are asking the public to support us in return on just 1 Day. 1 Day for Rehab, and hosting a 1 Day Lunch in particular, offers people a chance to support their local Rehab service, while also meeting up with old friends, making new ones and making our communities stronger. The generosity of Irish people is legendary and now, more than ever, Rehab hopes that on 1 Day people will get behind this vital appeal.”
Hosting a lunch is just one of the many ways to support 1 Day for Rehab. Some of the events planned throughout the country include a 24-hour Scubathon taking place in Kilkee, an Art Exhibition in Castlebar, a Treasure Hunt in Dun Laoghaire and a Bicycle Ride in Monaghan.
