Momentum Dragon Boat Race Rows Into Birmingham

Thursday, 17th June 2010: National not-for-profit organisation, Momentum, is calling on contenders to take part in its annual Dragon Boat Race at Edgbaston Reservoir, Birmingham, on Sunday 25th July, 2010. The unique sporting event, which originated in China more than 2,000 years ago, will raise much-needed funds for Momentum’s Brain Injury Centre, based in Birmingham.

Momentum is looking for teams of eight to ten people to race their way to the finish line and claim first-place position on the podium. All teams will have a minimum of three races and the fastest teams will then compete in the semi-finals and the final in order to lift the winners’ trophy.

In addition to the Dragon Boat Race, this is also a great family fun day out with picnic areas, bouncy castles, face painting and stalls, as well as a variety of other activities going on throughout the day.

Suzanne Ashby, Regional Manager, Momentum Midlands, said: “For those who have a secret ambition to be the next Steve Redgrave, this is the perfect opportunity to row their team to victory and raise vital funds for our lifeline service in the process.”

Deposit per boat is £400 or£40 per person and this includes the cost of safety equipment, kit, and the guidance of a highly-trained instructor. Each team then needs to raise just £30 per person. Every penny of sponsorship raised goes directly to the Midlands Brain Injury Centre.

Momentum Midlands offers a range of services which support people to get their lives back on track following a brain injury and to achieve their goals. The Birmingham-based programme helps approximately 100 people from the City and surrounding areas, per year. The programme provides specialist training and support which enables people to get back into paid employment or education.
