Encore Productions to set the Town Hall Theatre Alight with Production of House on Fire
Monday, 1 December 2008: Encore Productions, Dundalk RehabCare’s drama company, today proudly announced details of its latest production, House on Fire, which will be performed for one night only at The Dundalk Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday, 10th December at 8pm. Tickets cost just €10 (concessions €5) and are available from the Town Hall Theatre box office, or at the door.
House on Fire was devised entirely by the cast and crew of Encore Productions with the assistance of Drama Co-ordinator, Sandy Sneddon. Each actor was given the opportunity to develop their own character through a series of workshops. The play, which is the group’s sixth production, looks at the ups and downs of family life, from the cradle to the grave, and features comedy, music, dance and even puppetry.
“The production promises to be a home-grown soap for the 21st century and will explore such issues as bereavement, bullying, alcohol addictions and the frustrations felt by people with disabilities as they seek to live independent lives. But despite tackling such serious themes, there’ll be lots of family fun and lighter moments too,” says Cáitlín McKinley, Community Services Manager, RehabCare.
“The production will also feature a voiceover of excerpts from interviews conducted with other service users from the RehabCare centre in Carroll Village, Dundalk. It promises to be a great night’s entertainment. Everyone at RehabCare is very proud of the production and the considerable achievements of all those involved,” she added.
The first of its kind in the north-east, Encore Productions is a company of 24 people with a learning disability. Established in 2002 in partnership with the Health Service Executive, the drama company has wowed audiences both in Ireland and abroad with their many productions, including their own adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, entitled Under a Dark Sky, as well as The Strongman’s Week and Judge and Jury, which the group took to the Edinburgh Festival last year.
