And they're off! The Fifth Rehab Great Investment Race is launched
The race is on! Five of Ireland’s top investment management companies lined up, under the watchful eye of official race starter Today FM’s Matt Cooper, at the launch of the fifth Rehab Great Investment Race which took place today (10th July 2007) in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
This year’s race includes five of Ireland’s top investment companies, among them Oppenheim Investment Managers, who are the team to beat having emerged victorious in last year’s race.
Devised and organised by Rehab Lotteries, the Rehab Great Investment Race has, since its inception in 2001, raised a staggering €700,000 for autistic children and their families in Ireland. Through ‘bull’ and ‘bear’ markets, global catastrophes and economic uncertainty, the thoroughbreds of Ireland’s fund managers have given selflessly of their time and expertise to support an extremely worthwhile cause.
At the launch of the fifth Rehab Great Investment Race, each of the five race participants was presented with a cheque for €100,000 to invest as they wish in the stockmarket. The fund managers need to use all of their skill and experience to outwit each other, and the markets, in an effort to raise as much money as possible for RehabCare’s autism respite services nationwide.
The overall profit from last year’s race was €182,943 – representing a very impressive 30.5 per cent return. In addition to Oppenheim Investment Managers, participants in this year’s race include Bank of Ireland Asset Management (BIAM), winners of both the second and third investment races; AIB Investment Managers; Irish Life Investment Managers, and KBC Asset Management.
You can keep track of how the teams are performing on the Great Investment Race section of the Rehab website and in the monthly column that appears in the business pages of the Irish Times.
